Run Claude without typing: claude -p

claude -p "..." runs one prompt and exits. That's the building block for every automation.

text
claude -p "Read memory/ and 01-Projects/. List the 3 most urgent next actions."

Let it write files, safely

By default Claude asks permission. For a scheduled job nobody is there to click, so allow only what the job needs:

text
claude -p "Sort 00-Inbox into PARA folders and log what moved in daily/today.md" --permission-mode acceptEdits

acceptEdits lets it edit files in the folder but still blocks other commands. Never use a mode that skips all permissions on a folder you care about.

Save the prompt in a file

Long prompts are easier to manage as files:

Windows steps
powershell
cd $HOME\second-brain
mkdir automations
notepad automations\morning.md
Get-Content automations\morning.md -Raw | claude -p --permission-mode acceptEdits

Test every automation by hand at least twice before scheduling it.

Quick assignment

To do

Write automations/morning.md (a prompt that reads your vault and writes today's top 3 actions to daily/YYYY-MM-DD.md). Run it once by hand and paste what it wrote.

Hint: Tell it the exact file to write and the format.
